Apple and Mobile Domination
Apple computers started in the 1980s as a true niche company. For years they struggled to get recognition and find a market share beyond the small yet dedicated fan base they had accumulated. Now, in 2012 they have become the Cadillac of computers. And the company has also found another market to dominate, mobile.
Apple’s mobile production experienced 117% growth in the last quarter of 2011. This surge in sales moved over 37 million iPhones and 15 million iPads from shelves to homes. It was the best quarter in corporate history for Apple, and they only expect sales to improve. This has also sent their AAPL stock flying high above the rest of the NASDAQ. Many would say this growth is due to their share of mobile phone market.
While Apples revenue shares in the mobile market are comparable to some of their closest rivals. Their profit shares seem to amount to about 75% of the market.
Apple does not just dominate phone sales; they have started to take control of the whole mobile market at-large. They profit from app sales, digital media sales (books, music, etc…), as well as magazine subscriptions. All of these products can be reached and used through either iPhones or iPads.
What The Mobile Marketer Can Do
- Build your website to cater to the mobile community. Target devices that can download applications, use podcasts and other digital media. This allows you to target the mobile audience in an instant when they are more likely to react. Instead of having to remember your ad and find the product later.
- Develop your apps for the leading mobile phones, specifically iPhones. They are the leading phone developer, so to not develop apps for iPhone would be a mistake.
- Make sure you set goals and measure them. Apple removed some restrictions from their third-party analytics policy. Take advantage of this and track everything you do with one of these programs.
If there was anything a mobile marketer should not use Apple for, it is iAd, the company’s advertising program. It still needs much development, and Google or other more developed advertising platforms will generate better leads and more traffic. However, as Apple continues to gain dominance in many areas of the tech community they are likely to improve the iAd program.
Apple – Poised for Profit
Apple is set for another jump in market share and profits as well. The rumors of the fabled iPhone 5 and the iPad 3 have continued swirling around the mobile community. No official information on a release date for either of these gadgets has been announced. However the mobile community can be sure they are in for a treat.
Over the past 30 years Apple has grown into one of the largest technology corporations on the planet. Their mobile technology seems to always surpass the competition in effectiveness and style. Today they are the leaders in the mobile technology community. Mobile Marketers would benefit greatly by advantage of Apples rise to the top.
